6. Transforming Lives Through School Choice: A Conversation with Andy Ryan from Alabama Opportunity Scholarship Fund
In this episode, we explore the impact of the Alabama Opportunity Scholarship Fund (AOSF), a program established in 2013 to provide tax-credited scholarships for low-income K-12 students across Alabama. These scholarships empower families by allowing them to choose the best public or private school for their children.
Our guest is Andy Ryan, the Executive Director of AOSF. Andy's journey to Alabama began in 2012 when he joined the University of Notre Dame’s Alliance for Catholic Education teaching fellows program. He shares his experiences from teaching and administrating at a K-8 school in Mobile, where he witnessed the transformative impact of these scholarships on students' lives. With a BA in English Writing and Rhetoric from St. Edward’s University and a Master of Education from the University of Notre Dame, Andy brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to his role.
